Derived from the French term for exposed concrete, Beton Brut, championed by Swiss/French architect Le Corbusier. Influenced by the need for affordable housing after World War II, the style is quite utilitarian, though becoming an aesthetic in itself: exposed concrete, angular geometry, monotonous in color, exposed marks and unsmoothed textures. Rarely used for residential architecture, usually deployed for government, educational, and corporate buildings.
