If you were to stand across from Campus Customs on Broadway, it looks like any other one of the Shops at Yale, sitting between an Apple store and other Yale-owned storefronts. Inside, it sells university apparel and other merchandise, a lot of that gear is still screen-printed and embroidered on site. The building has experienced different lives, for roughly 35 years much of it was the York Square Cinema, a theater that opened in 1970 by joining four older buildings together. The building itself dates back to the early 1900s, Yale has owned it since 2023. It’s a great example of how much one Broadway stone front can hold, such a rich history that many aren’t aware of.
