Key Info
A few blocks south of Wooster Square Park and in the heart of the neighborhood's commercial core, two adjoining Italianate brick townhouses, constructed c. 1870, and combined into a single commercial building, are home to the most famous pizzeria in America's pizza capital: Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. The taller, three-story building retains its flat roof, bracketed cornice, and stone-capped window openings; its shorter neighbor rises two stories to a simpler cornice, with a set-back, shingle-clad half story above. A shared glazed-brick storefront unites the two at street level. Frank Pepe bought the set of buildings in 1935, moving his pizzeria into the ground floor and living with his family in the apartments on the upper floors.[1] Today, the building is best known for its perpetually long lines of tourists and apizza devotees.
